Who is Shift?

Shift provides business finance to small and medium businesses (SMEs) in Australia, including Business Overdraft, Equipment Line, Asset Finance and Trade Account. Since 2014, Shift has funded more than 30,000 Australian businesses.

At Shift, our unique approach to product innovation combined with our collaborative culture means you can build your career in a supportive environment. You’ll be joining a diverse team of over 300 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for Australian businesses.

About the role:

We are building something new! Join us at an exciting time as we launch Walker St, a new data-driven business venture within Shift. Backed by the resources of an established company and powered by a startup spirit, we’re creating tools that help businesses unlock the power of their banking data.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who’s excited to build modern, scalable systems from the ground up. This is a chance to work on a greenfield product, influence technical decisions, and be part of shaping an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture from day one.

What you’ll do:

- Design, build, and maintain scalable full-stack web applications using C#, .NET, React, and other modern technologies.

- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-impact features and improvements.

- Contribute to architectural decisions and help build a reliable microservices-based system.

- Ensure high standards of code quality, testing, and documentation.

- Support the team’s DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (Azure).

- Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring where needed.

- Embrace agile ways of working, continuous learning, and a user-first mindset.

What you’ll bring:

- 6+ years of experience building software with C# and .NET.

- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and event-driven microservices.

- Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms.

- Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tools (e.g. GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus).

- A mindset that values testing, quality, and reliable delivery.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills - you’re comfortable working cross functionally and contributing your ideas in a team setting.

- A passion for learning and solving problems – we’re big on curiosity over credentials.

Key benefits:

- Hybrid working: we’re headquartered in North Sydney with state-based workplaces and offer a hybrid work policy. Our offices have spaces for collaboration, socialising and focused work.

- Parental leave: up to 26 weeks paid.

- Strategy Week: twice a year the whole team comes together to hear the business strategy and product and technology roadmap first-hand, with fortnightly all-company business updates in between.

- Flat structure: everyone can learn from each other and senior leaders across the business.

- Wellbeing: benefits supporting your physical, psychological and financial wellbeing, from a day off on your birthday to end of trip facilities.

Additional information: If you don’t meet all the qualifications or skills but think you’d be a great fit, please apply anyway.
