Do job-search tools charge the monthly price they advertise?

Often not. Of 15 paid plans that advertise a per-month rate, 8 — 53% — do not charge that amount monthly. Reaching the advertised rate requires paying for three, six or twelve months at once. Kickresume's advertised €8 a month is a single €96 charge for a year, twelve times the headline figure.

We track 42 products and have verified pricing in full for 8 of them — 19% coverage. Price statistics are computed only over those 8. The rest are counted as existing and nothing more.

This is not a complete census of the market, and no figure here should be read as describing every job-search product that exists.

Advertised rate versus amount charged

A vendor writing “$29.98 per month” beside a plan billed $89.95 every three months is not lying — the small print is usually there. But the number a buyer remembers is the large one, and every comparison page we examined repeats the large one alone. The column that matters is what leaves your account in a single transaction.

“n/a” marks one-off and lifetime purchases, which have no annual cost. Reporting one for them would be a category error.

What the cheapest paid plan costs

One figure per product — its cheapest recurring monthly-equivalent rate — so a vendor offering four ways to pay does not count four times. Currencies are reported separately and never converted: a conversion would change with the exchange rate and imply a precision the source does not have.

How the market bills

Two of the 18 paid plans we recorded are billed on a period that does not divide the year into twelve — one weekly, one every four weeks. A plan billed every four weeks charges thirteen times a year, so a “$29.95 a month” product costs $389.35 over twelve months rather than $359.40.

How this was compiled

Products are discovered through market research and recorded in a census. Pricing is then read from each vendor’s own pricing page in a browser — most are client-rendered, so a plain fetch returns an empty page, which is probably why so many comparison sites quote prices that are years old.

Every figure is recorded with the URL it came from and the date it was read. No price here is taken from another comparison site. Where a vendor advertises a per-month rate alongside a different billed amount, both are recorded.

Statistics are computed only over products whose pricing has been verified in full. Products we track but have not yet priced are excluded from every price figure rather than being assumed to resemble the ones we have.

Prices go stale. Every figure shows when it was read, and the vendor’s own page is always authoritative over ours. If a price here is wrong, tell us and we will re-verify it.
