Steel Fabrication Operations Manager

Structural Steel Fabrication Manager Location: Gallaway, TN Job Type: Direct Hire Starting Salary: $80,000/year, with higher compensation available based on experience Position Overview We are seeking a hands-on Plant Manager to lead structural steel fabrication operations across two nearby facilities and two shifts. This role oversees production performance, safety, quality, maintenance, scheduling, and on-time shipping while providing leadership to shop supervisors and production teams. The operation currently includes approximately 65 employees, with plans to grow toward 90, and approximately 5–6 direct-report supervisors across multiple departments. The ideal candidate brings a strong structural steel background, knowledge of AISC and AWS standards, familiarity with coating requirements, and experience managing complex fabrication work in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities • Direct daily fabrication activities across both facilities and shifts.

• Lead approximately 65 employees , with planned growth toward 90, including 5–6 department/shop supervisors.

• Establish priorities and coordinate production schedules to meet shipping and delivery requirements.

• Promote safe work practices and ensure proper facility and equipment maintenance.

• Monitor fabrication efficiency, quality, and workflow across departments.

• Provide leadership in Receiving/Inventory, CNC Processing, Fabrication/Welding, Paint, and Shipping .

• Support hiring, employee retention, workforce development, disciplinary matters, and succession planning.

• Identify opportunities to improve production processes, quality, safety, and overall efficiency.

• Manage multiple complex fabrication projects and anticipate potential production issues.

• Work closely with operations leadership on scheduling, staffing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications • 7+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.

• 5+ years of leadership experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or production.

• Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 ; CWI certification preferred but not required.

• Experience working in an AISC-certified fabrication shop or environment.

• Background managing large, heavy, and complex steel fabrication projects .

• Knowledge of SSPC and ASTM coating requirements .

• Understanding of structural steel fabrication processes, workflows, and shop practices.

• Experience managing multiple production departments.

• Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement before they impact production.
