Job Description

Olsson is seeking a Substation Engineering Group Leader to lead and grow a team focused on delivering substation projects for utility clients, including Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), Municipal Utilities, and Electric Cooperatives. This leader will play a key role in developing people, expanding client relationships, and supporting the long-term growth of Olsson's utility substation practice.

What You'll Do:

• Lead, develop, and grow a team of engineers, designers, project managers, and technical leaders focused on serving utility clients.

• Lead through leaders by coaching and support team leads and senior engineering professionals.

• Collaborate with market, operations, and technical team leaders to establish strategies that support team growth and client success.

• Drive recruiting, workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, and employee development initiatives.

• Promote a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.

• Develop and strengthen long-term relationships with IOU, Municipal, and Cooperative utility clients.

• Support business development activities, client account growth, and strategic market initiatives.

• Oversee team workload forecasting, resource management, utilization, and financial performance.

• Ensure successful delivery of utility substation projects with a focus on quality, schedule, and client expectations.

• Collaborate with technical leaders to advance design standards, engineering practices, and knowledge sharing across the team.

• Support the growth and expansion of Olsson's utility services through leadership, innovation, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

You are passionate about:

You bring to the team:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

• 8+ years of substation engineering experience.

• 4+ years of experience leading teams within an engineering consulting, utility, or infrastructure environment.

• Experience leading through leaders, including project managers, supervisors, technical managers, or team leads (preferred).

• Demonstrated success in talent development, team growth, and organizational leadership.

• Strong business acumen with experience winning work, managing staffing, cultivating financial performance, and achieving operational goals.

• Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.

 

#LI-DNP The typical annual salary range for this role is as listed below. Compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, and qualifications. Employees in this role may be eligible for our performance‑based bonus and merit increases.

 

National Pay Range $118,900 — $243,000 USD
