Accountabilities • Develop, integrate, maintain, and optimise Linux-based software for embedded, IoT, autonomous, and server-class devices.

• Work with the latest Linux kernel technologies and open source projects to deliver reliable device software.

• Build and maintain device-oriented software stacks and operating system images across Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server environments.

• Optimise kernels, libraries, and system components for silicon-specific capabilities and hardware constraints.

• Diagnose complex system issues, identify root causes, and deliver robust, maintainable fixes.

• Contribute to areas such as kernel drivers, hardware enablement, silicon optimisation, networking, robotics, industrial IoT, and hardware certification according to team needs.

• Help customers successfully deploy applications and SDKs on Linux-based devices.

• Collaborate proactively with globally distributed engineering teams and participate in discussions around architecture, implementation, and technical solutions.

• Provide technical leadership on complex projects and customer engagements involving complete cloud-to-edge system architectures.

• Contribute high-quality technical documentation and help strengthen engineering knowledge across the wider community.

• Represent technical expertise within internal engineering teams and relevant external open source communities.

• Participate in international company events and collaborate in person with colleagues approximately two to four times per year.

Requirements

• Exceptional academic performance and a strong record of achieving ambitious technical and professional goals.

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, engineering, STEM, or an equivalent alternative background demonstrating strong technical capability.

• Professional experience working with Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.

• Strong interest in Linux, embedded systems, low-level software, kernels, graphics, or related technologies.

• Fluency in at least one systems programming language such as C, C++, Rust, or Go.

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with an emphasis on writing well-designed, reliable, and maintainable code.

• Professional written and spoken English with strong communication and presentation skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, adaptability, accountability, and a self-motivated approach to problem solving.

• A results-oriented mindset with the ability to take ownership and consistently deliver on commitments.

• Willingness and ability to travel internationally for company events approximately twice per year, with events lasting up to two weeks.

• Additional experience with Debian/Ubuntu packaging, distribution development, build systems, toolchains, or cross-compilation is advantageous.

• Knowledge of firmware, U-Boot, UEFI, ACPI, DSDT, boot loaders, or hardware bring-up is beneficial.

• Understanding of power management technologies such as PCI ASPM, SATA ALPM, and low-power profiles is a plus.

• Knowledge of x86, ARM, or RISC-V computer architectures is valuable.

• Experience with board design, validation, electrical engineering tools, performance engineering, security, shell scripting, or Python is advantageous.
