What the employer wrote
Responsibilities: • Own the end-to-end delivery of full-stack features, from requirements clarification and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and post-release support.
• Work directly with product, operations, and app engineering teams to translate business needs into practical technical solutions, communicate trade-offs, and proactively resolve delivery blockers.
• Develop and extend Sylius/Symfony modules with clear domain models and maintainable business logic. Design and optimize database schemas and queries to support application performance and data integrity.
• Build and maintain reusable Vue 3 and TypeScript components, and evolve the frontend architecture to deliver consistent, responsive user experiences.
• Design, implement, and maintain APIs and integrations supporting native Android/iOS apps, e-commerce operations systems such as Odoo, and internal services, ensuring reliable data exchange and backward compatibility.
• Improve search and product discovery with Elasticsearch through relevance tuning, query optimization, and reliable indexing and data synchronization workflows.
• Take ownership of code quality through automated unit, integration, and API tests, covering critical business workflows, edge cases, and integration contracts before release.
• Deploy and support applications in cloud and containerized environments, monitor changes after release, and troubleshoot production issues. Identify root causes and implement improvements that reduce recurring incidents.
• Guide technical decisions, conduct constructive code reviews, and mentor junior engineers. Proactively improve engineering practices and address technical debt to keep the codebase maintainable as the business grows.
Requirements: • 5+ years of full-stack development experience, with engineering team leadership preferred.
• Proficiency in languages like PHP, Python, or Node.js, with strong hands-on experience in enterprise frameworks like Symfony or FastAPI.
• Proficiency in MySQL (or similar relational database), including schema design, query optimization and data integrity.
• Hands-on experience developing and delivering modular, scalable frontend applications with Vue 3 and TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience implementing Elasticsearch for search and filtering features.
• Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS preferred) and container technologies like Docker, including building, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting production applications in production environments.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, etc) for code generation and problem-solving.
• End-to-End Quality: Take full ownership of code quality by implementing robust unit, integration, and API automated tests to verify changes before release.
• High Autonomy: Navigate ambiguity by proactively clarifying requirements, proposing scalable technical solutions, and driving delivery with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Communication & Mentorship: Mentor junior peers and explain technical concepts to non-technical business partners in excellent English. Cantonese is a plus.
Nice to have: • Experience working with ERP platforms (especially e-commerce operations workflows and understanding finance/accounting requirements).
• Experience working within a retail or e-commerce business environment (domain knowledge of inventory, promotions, logistics, etc.).
• Mobile-facing API design experience (versioning, backward compatibility, performance).
Additional information: • The team is lean: successful candidates are highly self-directed.
• End-to-end ownership: you’re accountable for outcomes after release.
• High autonomy and proactivity: you move work forward with minimal hand-holding.
• Stakeholder engagement: you can work directly with product, operations, and app teams.
• Quality first: clean code, pragmatic architecture, and reliable tests.
