Head of Korea Compliance

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a talented Head of Korea Compliance to join our Compliance team. Reporting directly to the Head of APAC Compliance, you will be responsible for providing primary compliance support for all aspects of HRT’s business activities in Korea, including equities, options and futures trading activities.  

The ideal candidate will have deep subject matter expertise in Korean trading laws, rules and regulations, and market structure, as well as the technical complexities of algorithmic proprietary trading businesses.  

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely, and practical advice regarding the application of Korean regulatory requirements (e.g. HFT surveillance guidelines) to the firm’s businesses 

• Act as the primary internal contact regarding Korea regulatory compliance matters for HRT’s algorithm development and business development teams 

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with, and act as our liaison to, Korean regulators such as the FSS and the KRX

• Review new business initiatives for compliance before launch

• Assist in the design and review of trade surveillance reports

• Develop, maintain, and update compliance policies and procedures 

• Assist in periodic compliance risk assessments and reviews

• Investigate and prepare comprehensive, accurate, and timely responses to regulatory inquiries and examinations

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, law, or related field 

• 15+ years of direct experience in Korea regulatory matters and strong relationships with Korean regulators

• Extensive knowledge of Korean market structure

• Strong familiarity with algorithmic proprietary trading strategies and technology concepts

• Speaks Korean as a first language, as well as English

• Exceptional cross-functional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex regulatory concepts clearly and concisely to traders, developers, and senior management

• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously
