What the employer wrote
HPR is the leading provider of high-performance and ultra-low latency electronic trading and capital markets infrastructure solutions offered as a managed service. Our cutting-edge technology is used by tier-1 financial institutions to monitor and execute trades rapidly and efficiently. As we continue to innovate and grow, we’re searching for a forward-thinking Platform Software Engineer I to help us build the future of capital markets infrastructure.
As a Platform Software Engineer I you will:
• Utilize your expertise in low-level programming as we advance the state of the art in high performance computing and electronic trading
• Provide the necessary guidance and hands-on delivery of the design, development, and debugging of C applications that run on multi-core Linux systems to process large amounts of high-throughput, low-latency network data
• Be a key contributor to our process and team culture, continually iterating on how we build products, not just on what we build
• Collaborate directly with customers that are using the products that you develop
REQUIRED SKILLS
• MS/BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
• 0+ years of relevant DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering experience
• Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes — cluster management, node provisioning, networking, and multi-environment operations
• Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Docker Compose
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code practices and tooling
• Strong scripting skills in Python and/or shell for automation and operational tooling
• Experience building or maintaining internal developer tooling or simulation/testing platforms
• Experience with Helm charts for packaging and deploying applications to Kubernetes
• Familiarity with observability stacks — particularly Grafana and Loki for metrics, logging, and alerting
• Working knowledge of object storage systems such as S3 and relational or NoSQL databases
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitLab
• Demonstrated ability to work through complex infrastructure challenges and drive them to resolution
• Comfortable being onsite in Needham, MA 5 days a week
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Experience with Node.js / Express and TypeScript in a DevOps or platform context
• Familiarity with financial markets or trading systems infrastructure
• Experience building or maintaining internal developer tooling or simulation/testing platforms
• Knowledge of network fundamentals relevant to Kubernetes (CNI, load balancers, ingress controllers, service meshes)
