Summary
The IT Systems Engineer is a senior-level member of the IT Operations team responsible for Tier 1 through Tier 3 support across a distributed workforce. Beyond core helpdesk responsibilities, this role serves as the primary administrator for Okta OIE, Okta Workflows, and Google Workspace, owning identity lifecycle management, authentication policies, and application integrations with a high degree of operational autonomy.
Operating independently on day-to-day tasks while coordinating major configuration changes with the Director of IT, this individual is also a key contributor to security operations, endpoint security enforcement, compliance evidence gathering, and company-wide AI automation initiatives.
Note: This position is fully remote; however, the ideal candidate must be able to securely store hardware equipment (laptops, monitors, and accessories) to assist with employee onboarding and offboarding logistics.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Respond to user service requests, troubleshoot issues, and deliver end-to-end technical support for a distributed team.
- Provide in-depth remote technical support and author clear Knowledge Base documentation for problem resolution.
- Support Zoom Phone environments and troubleshoot hardware/software issues, including repairs and warranty replacements.
- Configure, test, and deploy new workstations, peripherals, and software while maintaining accurate inventory via asset management tools.
- Serve as primary administrator for Okta OIE (user lifecycle management, authentication policies, app integrations, MFA enforcement).
- Build and maintain automated identity lifecycles using Okta Workflows.
- Manage macOS fleet deployment and compliance via Jamf Pro, Jamf Protect, and Jamf Security Cloud.
- Administer Google Workspace (user provisioning, organizational unit structure, group configuration, security policies).
- Support security operations with alert triage, endpoint compliance enforcement, and audit evidence gathering for SOC 2 and ISO 27001 programs.
- Contribute to internal automation initiatives, including AI-powered workflows and agents.
- Proactively identify recurring technical issues and educate team members on business-based best practices.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience supporting Apple hardware and software (macOS and iOS).
- 3+ years of hands-on Okta administration in an OIE (Okta Identity Engine) environment.
- Hands-on experience managing Apple endpoints using Jamf Pro, Jamf Protect, and Jamf Security Cloud.
- Proven experience administering Google Workspace (user provisioning, OUs, groups, security configurations).
- Direct experience with identity lifecycle automation, specifically Okta Workflows.
- Familiarity with security operations support (alert triage, endpoint compliance, SOC 2 / ISO 27001 evidence gathering).
- Exposure to automation tooling and AI-driven workflows or agents.
- Working knowledge of basic network troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS), software deployment, and ticketing systems.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (US English) with a focus on detailed, step-by-step documentation.
- Strong self-motivation, organization, and problem-solving skills tailored for an autonomous remote setup.
Certifications
- Strongly Preferred: Okta Certified Administrator, Associate Google Workspace Administrator
- Nice to Have: Okta Workflows Certification
Key Qualities
- Results-Driven: Expert at identifying next actions, communicating intent clearly, and executing efficiently without micromanagement.
- Built for Remote: Highly disciplined self-starter who excels in an asynchronous, 100% remote working environment.
- Owner Mentality: Takes personal accountability for systems, projects, and user satisfaction.
- Collaborative: Strong interpersonal skills with a team-first, approachable demeanor.
